Analysis of Lumbar and Pelvic Spine X-Ray

Course Objective: Understand visual and measured changes of the lumbar spine and pelvis on x-ray as a result of potential subluxations.

Format: Online learning with audio and PowerPoint presentations.

Visual Analysis:
Lateral Lumbar Visual Analysis – Lumbar curves, sacral base angle, L 1-L5 disc height, IVF shape, sacral segments, endplate changes, anterior or posterior translation of lumbar segments
A-P Lumbopelvic Visual Analysis – Lumbar lateral curvature, spinous rotation of lumbar segments, lateral flexion of lumbar segments, listing formulation of lumbar vertebra, endplate deformities, pedicle shadow evaluation for spinous rotation, pelvic rotation, flexion or extension of the iliums, sacral rotation, sacral inferiority, sacral malformation, pubis symphysis shift, obturator changes with pelvic misalignment

Line Analysis:
Lateral Lumbar – Lumbar Posteriority and line placement, sacral base line, sacral base angle, George’s Lines on posterior body margins
A-P Lumbopelvic – femur head line and pelvic line analysis for AS/PI listings, sacral line analysis for rotation/inferiority/malformation, rotation of pelvis for IN/EX listings, calculating measured short leg and anatomical short leg on the x-ray
